HP ProLiant DL380p G8 2U server: SFF 16x 2.5″, 2x CPU, 2x PSU, P420i + RailKit

HP ProLiant DL380p G8 Server (2U) – Based on a 2-processor platform that is great for general-purpose applications, virtualization and cloud solutions. This server offers better performance and more internal memory than the previous generation. It also features new drive carriers, faster array controllers, and faster, lower voltage memory.

HP management engine with built-in intelligence makes server startup easier and more cost-effective. Always-On Active Health improves stability and reduces downtime through continuous monitoring. The HP SmartSocket Guides featured in the G8 Series are designed to help reduce downtime through a seamless processor installation.

Performance

The system is based on the Intel C600 chipset, which has support for two processors: the Intel E5-2600 processor family, or the Intel E5-2600 v2 processor family, which provide a 35% increase in performance. Single processor configurations include six fans, while two processor configurations include eight with built-in fan redundancy. The interior of the enclosure is well-designed for easy access to components for replacement or upgrades. The chassis is equipped with temperature sensors that automatically adjust the fan speed to provide sufficient airflow to cool system components.

The amount and type of RAM

A total of 24 RAM slots are available, each processor supports four memory channels with three DDR3 DIMM slots for a total of 12 memory slots per processor. There is support for such memory modules: unbuffered (UDIMM), registered (RDIMM) and reduced load (LRDIMM). DIMMs are available in sizes from 4 GB to 32 GB, up to a maximum of 768 GB when using 24 x 32 GB LRDIMMs. Using the same LRDIMM memory configuration, the HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Server can achieve memory speeds up to 1866 MHz, but this capability depends on the processor model installed.

The HP ProLiant G8 Series introduced SmartMemory, which improves memory performance by 16.6% over previous generations. Installation of different types of memory modules is not supported.

Data storage

This HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 server configuration supports up to 16 SAS, SATA, or SSD hot-pluggable 2.5-inch SFF hard drives. The HP Smart Array P420i RAID Controller from HP can support up to 2GB Flash-Enabled Write Cache (FBWC). This array can support RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6, and 60. HP introduced SmartDrive media on its Gen8 servers, adding status LEDs to provide the user with a variety of visual cues about the health of the hard drive.

Expansion slots

The compact 1U server supports up to two PCIe 3.0 expansion slots, including one low profile slot. A single processor configuration can support both expansion slots. A dedicated FlexibleLOM slot eliminates the need for your PCIe slots and provides network speeds of 1 Gigabit, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, or QDR / FDR InfiniBand.

Administration

Server lifecycle is supported by a variety of embedded management solutions with the HPE iLO 4.0 Management Engine. Management tools are more efficient than previous generations, making server coordination incredibly easy. Leveraging a single version of iLO across all ProLiant Gen8 servers further simplifies coordination and management. Features such as HPE Agentless Management provide built-in server health monitoring and agentless alerting. HPE Intelligent Provisioning allows users to configure the server without separate media – no more SmartStart CDs required.

There are many upgrade options available, such as HPE Insight Control, which saves time and money by optimizing your IT infrastructure with a single management console. The HPE Matrix Operating Environment offers automated provisioning, optimization, and recovery capabilities for the HPE CloudSystem Matrix.
