HP claims DL380 is the world’s best-selling server. With the performance, flexibility and reliability that the DL380 Gen9 server demonstrates, there’s a reason to believe it. The latest Intel Xeon processors, NVDIMM options and a new Universal Media Bay configuration with rear drive support give administrators the ability to configure this server with high scalability. This server is a jack of all trades and can run anything from the most basic to mission critical applications.
Performance
A maximum of two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 or Intel E5-2600 v3 family processors can be installed on the DL380 Gen9. Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors deliver 23% faster performance over E5-2600 v3 processors.
The amount and type of RAM
ProLiant DL380 Gen9 supports up to 24 HPE DDR4 SmartMemory modules. By populating all 24 DIMM slots with128GB sticks of DDR4 LRDIMMs, you get an impressive 3TB of memory! With HPE SmartMemory, administrators can expect up to 21% better performance compared to non-HP memory modules.
The DL380 G9 is also one of the first ProLiant servers to support HPE persistent memory for performance and data resiliency, using significantly less memory at 128 GB with 8 GB modules in 16 slots. Registered DIMMs are also supported, but only provide up to 768 GB when using 32 GB modules. 2400MHz memory speeds are supported, but must be paired with a compatible v4 CPU.
Data storage
The HPE DL380 G9 features a completely redesigned chassis with Universal Media Bay configurations to support 8 to 24 SFFs, as well as 4 or 12 LFFs. NVMe options are also available along with rear drive support for additional storage and fault tolerance. Integrated SATA controller HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i for boot, data and media. Administrators can also choose from several Smart SAS HBAs for 12 Gbps access speeds.
Expansion slots
The DL380 Gen9 supports up to six PCie 3.0 expansion slots in a dual-processor configuration and can be used for additional dual-wide network adapters, controller cards, or GPUs to accelerate workloads.
Administration
The HPE DL380 Gen9 has built-in management, managed by HPE LightsOut Integrated Management (iLO), is standard and offers administrators alerts, reporting, and remote management. Intelligent provisioning is also included as standard to simplify server deployment and provide flexibility. System configuration is resolved with an easy-to-use wizard that is available on all Gen9 platforms and supported by all operating systems. HPE Insight Online offers a personalized dashboard for health monitoring and converged infrastructure support.
